Comer Brothers

Residents may be interested to read this recent article from the Irish Post which charts the background of the Comer brothers and their property development activities.  I'm afraid it takes a little while to download at the average RCP broadband speed!

Christmas holidays

Comer Property Management has circulated two notices relating to the holiday period and these can be viewed on the right.  They may also be accessed here.

In particular, residents should take note of the Out of Hours Emergency Helpline 0331 321 6434 for issues which are the management's responsibility.

The minibus will be running a normal service until 23 December, but will then shut down until 4 January 2016.  Ted can be contacted on 07817 224482 if you want to take advantage of the shopping shuttle service.

Comer Property Management

As you may know the Residents Association (RA) has been trying to work with Comer Homes as one of our objectives is to create a community spirit at RCP, which we felt might be achieved by organising various activities, which in turn could mean using the estates facilities.

Unfortunately there has been a breakdown of communications between the RA and Comer Homes and the quarterly meetings have ceased for the time being.

We must therefore advise you  that the RA will not currently be acting as a conduit to take resident issues to Comer Homes, and thus that residents will  need to direct any issues they might have relating either to their own residence or the estate generally with Helen Eames in the first instance. On some occasions you might find matters are dealt with by Mr Robert Sheppard.  We have provided their email and telephone numbers below.

Helen Eames; Tel 07760 771525;

Robert Sheppard; Tel  020 8361 2424,and 07700 893449;

Old Boys' Reunion Visit

You may have seen the large group wandering around the development last Saturday and wondered who they were.  It was in fact a visit of Old Boys from the 60s and 70s who were visiting the site to see how things have changed since their time.  For those who may have spoken to them, they were full of stories about times past:

  • The CCF parade ground which used to be where the entrance to the underground car park now is
  • The harsh treatment in the infirmary for those unfortunate enough to suffer injuries playing sport
  • The exact classroom where the famous John Cleese scene took place and the corridor where the introduction to Thunderbirds was filmed.  Apparently even Eastenders made use of the Main Hall (not the Dining Hall which has been preserved) for a Court scene.
How things have changed!

Picnic lunch

About 50 residents met for a picnic lunch earlier today.  The weather was kind to us and it was a great success, providing an opportunity to put names to faces of people and pets!  Thanks to everyone who attended.

Final Reminder - Picnic tomorrow!

A final reminder to everyone that the lunchtime picnic is being held on the front gardens in front of the Chapel tomorrow at 12.30.  It's a "bring your own food, drink, tables and chairs" event and the Committee looks forward to seeing as many residents as possible for what should be a very enjoyable social occasion.  If the weather is unkind, we will decamp to the inner cloisters for shelter.

Picnic at RCP to be held 30 August

Unfortunately, it has not proved possible to organise the barbeque which was discussed at the residents' meeting.  There are too many things to sort out at short notice so it's something that we will need to look at for next summer.

In its place we've decided to invite everyone to a communal "bring your own" picnic at 12.30pm on Sunday, 30th August.  Please keep the date free and come along to help us make it an occasion to remember,

Excellent turnout at the residents' meeting

At the meeting this evening David Pollock gave a short presentation of the new RCP Residents' website and Tony Lesser outlined some of the suggestions he had received for future social, sports and cultural activities.  The idea of a summer barbecue attracted strong support.

Issues around parking and rubbish were discussed at some length.  Tony continues to liaise with Comer to try and effect improvements.

Residents' meeting - 7 July

Please read the attached invitation to attend the Residents' meeting on Tuesday, 7 July at 7pm which may be found by clicking here.  The meeting will take place in the Hall next to the Gym in the Leisure Complex.  We are hoping for a high turnout so that we can generate a good discussion around matters of common interest.

Discussion Forum

We have created an online RCP Residents' Discussion Forum where we can share our views and thoughts on matters of interest to us and our neighbours.  Just click on the permanent link above or here and then register as a member.  Feel free to post comments on any subject, but please refrain from personal abuse or discourtesy to others.  It would be a shame if we had to moderate posts.

One possible use of the forums may be to encourage people to join together in groups sharing common interests relevant to RCP such as the use of the tennis courts and fitness centre.  Ideas for social activities to help newcomers get to know their neighbours would be most welcome!

Just let me know (forumadmin@rcpresidents.org) if you have any suggestions about how the boards could operate more effectively.

Please respond to the Chairman's letter

The new Chairman of the Residents' Committee, Tony Lesser, has circulated a letter to all residents with his initial thoughts on creating a community atmosphere through working together to solve mutual problems and developing initiatives to improve the way the estate is managed, and by encouraging social activities to make use of our excellent facilities.

In order to communicate effectively with residents, it is essential that the Committee builds up a proper database of contact details, in particular email addresses.  Unfortunately, Comer cannot help us with this (for good data protection act reasons), so we need to do it ourselves.

If you have not already done so, would you please respond to Tony with the contact details requested in the attachment to his letter.  This may be found by following the link here.

Welcome

This website has been created to allow residents to share information and news about anything and everything which affects the development and our local area.  It can be used as a noticeboard simply by emailing your post to one of the committee members (committee@rcpresidents.org) and it will be added as the next news item.

We intend to include links to permanent information (eg emergency contact details) relating to matters of relevance to residents and also to store items of interest such as archive photos of the school in its former days.  We have started by providing a link to the community rules published by Comer Homes.  Please email news@rcpresidents.org with anything you would like me to include on the website.

Please use the Follow by Email link below to provide your email address so that you will be notified automatically when new information is posted to the website.
